The Citadel Foundation Paints add 18 new
colours to the overall range of Citadel paints.
Why is this exciting? Well, one reason is
that these 18 new colors mix perfectly with
the existing Citadel Colour Paints and thereby
create a near-endless palette of colours
from which to choose. A special color mix
that previously took four Citadel Colours
to create may now only take one Citadel
Foundation Paint and one Citadel Colour.
Mixing the highly pigmented Citadel Foundation
Paints with standard
Citadel Colours also creates a more potent
basecoat color that will cover a miniature
with fewer coats. By simply mixing these
two ranges of paint, you instantly expand
the colour reach of the 18 Citadel Foundation
Paints through the roof.
For this article, we've mixed up a whole
bunch of paint swatches using Citadel Foundation
and Citadel Colour Paints to help prove
our point as well as showcase the myriad
range of hues you can create with these exciting new paints.
The Format. On each linked page
below, we explore some of the color possibilities
of each one of the 18 Citadel Foundation
Paints. First, we've mixed each one at
a 1:1 ratio with
Chaos Black (shades), Codex Grey (tones),
and Skull White (tints) to cover the basics
of color theory. After that, we evenly
mixed each Citadel Foundation Paint with
three
different sets of Citadel Colours that
we believe would work well as a basecoat,
mid-tone,
and highlight group. In the end, we had
a strip of colors like the picture above
for each Citadel Foundation Paint. For
those number crunchers out there, that
makes for
a grand total of 216 mixing samples on
the following pages.
