Spites of Athel Loren title image.

Athel Loren is infested with all manner of capricious and unpredictable nature-spirits. In their truest form, these spirits appear as shining spheres of light or ghostlike auras. However, they can change form at will, and such is the array of shapes that they can take that it is almost impossible to categorize them. They are known collectively as Spites — willful and highly unpredictable beings, as likely to help a lost traveler escape the forest as to lead him to his doom.

In game terms, Spites are essentially Magic Items that give the owner various abilities. Although there is no rule that says you have to have a model representing the Spites, it could cost you a game. I mean, how many times have you paid for some sort of ability or Magic Item only to forget about it during the game, then afterwards slap your head and say, "Dang it!" Well, you might find yourself in that boat with Spites.

So why not take the time to model a few of 'em and glue them onto a base? This way, the model acts as a token/marker that you'll never forget about during a game. Hopefully, this article will inspire you to do just that. Besides, Spites are kinda fun to make.

Here are a few visions of Spites offered up by some of Games Workshop's incredibly talented artists. The creepy-crawly nature of the art served as my inspiration as I built my Spites.
