Ty Finocchiaro: There were four goals I wanted to incorporate into this Branchwraith model. The first was to have a bunch of branches sprouting from its back. Second, I really wanted to change the model's pose so that it would be creeping forward, hunched over – nearly on all fours. Next, I needed to include a Spite. Finally, I wanted to do something unique and fun with the paint scheme.

I started things off by messing with the pose. In order to hunch the Branchwraith over a bit, I used a heat gun to soften the plastic very carefully. With the material still quite malleable, I gently repositioned the body, then let it cool off and harden. Next, I had to find and add some extra branches. Lucky for me, I discovered that one of the branches I wanted to use had a Spite on there already. All it needed was a bit of glue and putty work to finish off the model.

To make the model stand out a bit, I had been toying with the notion of painting new plant growths at the tips of every branch and appendage on the Dryad. After painting the entire model, I went back and used deep greens progressively through to bright yellows on each branch tip. The careful blending produced a neat fade effect that gives the impression that the Dryad is currently budding new growths – more than likely for the use of clawing some poor trespasser to pieces.
