Painting a Black Orc with Great Weapon
Grimgor has found a new goal in his harsh life – to redeem himself in the eyes of Gork and reclaim his title as the baddest, meanest, hardest warlord to have ever lived! He might be able to accomplish this task if he draws enough Black Orcs with Great Weapons to his banner.

Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage-by-stage images for reference as you paint your models. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture perfect in the end; painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

1

Basecoat the armour with Scab Red. Do the same for the chainmail and great axe head with Boltgun Metal. Don't worry about the skin just yet – you should do that after the armour because it makes such a mess with the red and metal.

2 Black Orc skin is supposed to be dark. Basecoat the skin with a 3:2 mix of of Dark Angels Green to Chaos Black. To make the head stand out and look menacing, apply an even mix of Enchanted Blue and Chaos Black to the helmet. Although this basecoat is dark, subsequent highlights will pick out more detail. For the horns and the straps on the back, basecoat them with straight Scorched Brown. Lastly, give everything (metal, red armour, helmet, and horns) a good dose of Black Ink. Consider watering it down with a few drops, but remember that you do want to "grime" everything up! This technique is a very drastic one, but you'll like the result. Make sure to let the ink dry.

3

Highlight the red armour with an even mix of Blazing Orange and Scab Red. Before this mix dries, add a little Skull White (not too much or you'll make your Black Orcs a sissy pink colour) and edge in a brighter highlight on key areas of the armour. Hit the helmet again with a similar Enchanted Blue and Chaos Black mix, but this time lighten it up with a little Skull White. Highlight the tips of the horns and the leather straps with Bestial Brown. Apply Snakebite Leather to the fingernails (although time-conscious painters may just want to use the Bestial Brown). With Dark Angels Green, pick out major muscles. Add in a dab of Goblin Green to the Dark Angels Green and highlight some more. Apply a watered-down wash of Chestnut Ink to the armour (both the red AND the metal areas).

4

Add the final highlights to the red armour with the same mix as before, but add in a little more Skull White. Be careful to hit only the most prominent edges! Finish off the helmet by adding more Skull White to the Enchanted Blue/Chaos Black mix. Do the same for the skin (add in a little Skull White to the Dark Angels Green/Goblin Green mix). Touch off the horn tips with a 5:1 Bestial Brown to Skull White mix. Paint the rivets on the red armour with Chaos Black.

5

The metal highlights are all that remain. With an even mix of Mithril Silver and Skull White, "streak" highlights onto the grimy metal axe head and metal armour rivets. This unusual mix will show up better than straight Mithril Silver.
