Storm of Chaos Preview

The Storm of Chaos will soon be upon us, and Warhammer players across the world are reviewing their troops and preparing their strategies. Based on the enormous level of participation we saw during the Eye of Terror, the Storm of Chaos will make for a summer of gaming excitement for Games Workshop enthusiasts everywhere.

If you have never been in a GW worldwide campaign, you may be asking how you can get involved. Fear not! The Storm of Chaos is explained below.

How It All Works

Like other summertime campaigns that Games Workshop has organized over the years, the Storm of Chaos will involve Warhammer players all over the world. Between July 1 and August 30, 2004, gamers playing thousands of tabletop battles with every type of Warhammer army imaginable will determine the overall direction and outcome of the campaign. Most of these games will be played at people’s houses, local clubs, and game shops, and individual players will enter the results of these games at the Storm of Chaos web site. Several special games will also be played at Storm of Chaos events that will be held at Games Days, Battle Tours, retail stores, and Rogue Trader Tournaments. Each of these special games will have a unique effect on subsequent battles in the overall campaign.

As we developed and refined the rules and structure of the campaign, we were determined to keep the focus of the campaign on what’s most important to all of us: tabletop battles. Whereas some of our previous worldwide campaigns have involved lots of complicated statistics and numbers, the Storm of Chaos will centre everyone’s attention on playing games of Warhammer – pure and simple. As such, the Storm of Chaos functions much like a giant tree or ladder campaign. Victory in one area will translate to bonuses and battlefield advantages (or disadvantages) in another.

The Storm of Chaos Campaign Book

At the forefront of this summer’s campaign will be the Storm of Chaos book. This Army-book-sized volume details the background of the Storm of Chaos campaign and includes 10 (count ’em; 10) new army lists for use in the campaign. Most of these lists are variations on existing armies and thus will provide players with alternative ways to play with their current collections or perhaps inspire some to add to an existing force or start a new one. These lists are all 100% official and will be tournament-legal for games of Warhammer both during and after the Storm of Chaos campaign. The Storm of Chaos book goes on sale early in June.

The Storm of Chaos Web Site

Starting in June, players interested in participating in the campaign madness can register on the Storm of Chaos web site:

www.storm-of-chaos.com

On the site, players will find a description and background information about the campaign, a fully interactive campaign map, downloadable files of the special Storm of Chaos army lists, as well as war rooms and forums in which allies can discuss battle strategies and plans for the campaign.

A preview version of the Storm of Chaos web site will go live as of April 6 and will be regularly updated and expanded thereafter. Be the first kid on your block to check it out!
