Statues and monuments to fallen heroes are a common part of any Warhammer town. In fact they generally serve as the central meeting place of a city.

Making a few of these terrain features will enhance the look of any terrain set up and to be honest they can add that final unique touch that'll help your scenery collection really stand out. Anyone can make a statue with a few simple techniques and extra models you might never even use!

Start off by trimming a model that will serve as the focal point of the statue. Empire Knights make imposing and heroic statues so we chose to use one. However, this does not mean that you can't create a statue in honor of a foul demon or other nameless deity!
The basic structure of the statue was made from a block of insulation foam. A small rectangle of plasticard was used as a base for the assembled knight to be placed upon and make for an easier time when it comes to gluing the statue to the foam block.
The front plaque is a single piece of thick rectangular card. Detailed edging was carefully cut out from thin strips of card and glued into place. Use any design your imagination can come up with. To bolster the Empire feel of the statue a shield was glued onto the top-centre of the plaque.
Using wood glue (super glue will eat the insulation foam) all the pieces were assembled and attached to a base. Sand was glued onto the base and everything was set aside to dry.

Painting statues is fun because it is simple and yields impressive results.

Starting with a Chaos Black basecoat, the statue was heavily drybrushed with Jade Green. Once this coat was dry a very light and selective amount of Beaten Copper was drybrushed onto the model. The result is a realistic patina bronze effect.

The front of the plaque was decorated with nonsense scrawl painted on using straight Beaten Copper. Paint slowly and the effect will be quite nice. To check out a ton of other statue paint schemes and more, click the link below!
