Saw & Blades
|
What It's Used for:
The hobby saw is not a very common tool for a hobbyist to
own. In fact, most modelers can get by without ever owning
one. The main draw of the hobby saw is the ability to hack
thick metal models in half for complex conversion projects.
This way, nothing can stand in the way of your intense hobby
ambition. In addition to the hobby saw, you will probably
want to dig up a sturdy desk vise to hold the items in place
while you saw away.
On a smaller scale, the saw is used for those jobs that
are just a wee-bit too much for clippers to handle. Having
a hobby saw is nice, but it's more of a tool for the experienced
hobbyist and terrain guru.

How NOT
to Use It:
When using the saw, maintain a steady motion and don't force
it along. If you neglect these simple rules, you'll ruin the
blade, the object your trying to cut through, or your hand.
DO NOT use the hobby saw without first securing the object
in place with either a clamp or vise. You could brace the
model against a sturdy desk and saw very carefully, but a
vise is generally a better idea. Holding the object in your
hand or bracing it against your leg while you make the cut
is stupid and dangerous. Your hand, no matter how strong,
cannot hold steady and will make sawing a challenge. Also,
you're just begging to hack through your leg or palm.
