Cho'Gall's Vulgar Horde

Castle Hill Hobby Developer Joe Boyle recently won the 2005 Warhammer Games Workshop staff tournament with his Ogre Kingdoms army. We took the opportunity to delve into the deranged mind of this Ogre tactician. Read on if you dare...

Ogre Army

A New Tournament Army

I have been playing Warhammer Fantasy now for about 7 years. When the Ogre Kingdoms were due to be released I initially gave no thought to building an army of them. I thought they would be too difficult to use effectively on the battlefield. With the announcement that our Warhammer Staff Tourney was going to be following NTS 1 rules the thought of an Ogre army was much more appealing. I decided that if I could not do well on the battlefield then I would at least do well for my painting score.

Collecting The Horde

Starting the army was easy, I simply bought the Ogre Army deal. I had my first game just over a week after purchasing the army using everything that came in the box, plus a regiment of Leadbelchers and a Butcher. The results of my first game was that I got soundly thrashed by a Night Goblin army. The most important lesson I learnt from that game was that units needed to be larger than 3 or 4 models and that I needed another Butcher. My next purchase to expand the army I bought an Ogre Battalion and the second Butcher that I so desperately needed as well as another unit of Gnoblars.
