Once your models have a basecoat, painting can begin. Below, you will find a simple-but-effective colour scheme using only 10 colours. Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage-by-stage images for reference as you paint your models. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture-perfect in the end; painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

1 Start things off with a simple, heavy drybrush of Regal Blue. Lay it on pretty thick to the skin and scales. Don't worry about getting it all over the place; this is a basecoat after all!

2 Continue the drybrush madness on the same areas but this time with Ultramarines Blue.

Using a watered-down mix of Ultramarines Blue and Lightning Blue, carefully paint the Saurus's skin. Pick out nearly all of the flesh areas, but leave the recesses alone. Very lightly drybrush this mix onto the scales as well. Paint any metal weapons and jewelry Chaos Black before going over them with Brazen Brass.

Add some more Lightning Blue to the previous skintone mixture, water it down, and then continue to highlight the skin. Pay attention to the eyes, snout, and other highlight focal points. Carefully paint over all the metal bits with Shining Gold – you don't want to mess up the Saurus's skin. Pick out the teeth and nails at this point with some Kommando Khaki.


5 Hold your breath and paint the eye Blood Red with a very fine detail brush. Water down a bit of Chestnut Ink and apply it to the metal areas very carefully. Make sure it doesn't run all over the place! Paint the shield as you wish and attach it to the Saurus's arm. The shield shown above has a basecoat of Scab Red and highlights of Scab Red mixed with Blood Red.
