Once your models have been primed, painting can begin. Below, you will find a simple-but-effective colour scheme using 14 colours. Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage-by-stage images for reference as you paint your models. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture perfect in the end; painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

By following this technique with your own Spearmen, you’ll be able to paint up large numbers of infantry. The same methods can certainly be used while painting Archers and Swordmasters.

WE USED THE FOLLOWING CITADEL PAINTS:
Bestial Brown
Codex Grey
Dwarf Flesh
Elf Flesh
Fortress Grey
Red Gore
Blood Red
Snakebite
Leather
Bubonic Brown
Skull White
Mithril Silver
Chaos Black
Bleached Bone
Shining Gold
1 Start by spraying the model with Chaos Black, as a Spearman is predominantly clad in metal, and metallic paint is better applied over a black undercoat than a white one. Next, paint the flesh areas (hands and face) and spear shaft with Bestial Brown and any cloth areas with Codex Grey.

2 Highlight the flesh areas with Dwarf Flesh and the spear shaft and sword hilt with Snakebite Leather. With Fortress Grey, highlight the cloth areas, ensuring that the Codex Grey is left in the recesses to act as shading. For the red armour trim and helmet decorations, paint Blood Red first, then Red Gore over the top.

3

Highlight the flesh areas with Elf Flesh, the spear shaft and sword hilt with Bubonic Brown, and Skull White for the cloth areas. Drybrush the mail shirt with Mithril Silver. Paint all the other armour, the helmet, and the spear tip with Mithril Silver.

4

Finally, highlight the flesh areas with a mixture of Elf Flesh and a bit of Skull White. Highlight the spear shaft with Bleached Bone. Carefully paint any small details, such as parts of the armour and sword decoration, with Shining Gold.
