The High Elves defend their ancient realm against another Dark Elf incursion.

For the tactician, there are few more satisfying armies to command than the proud and majestic High Elves. Deadly, swift, and precise, the power of the High Elves lies in their ability to hit the enemy hard where and when they choose with the support of awesome sorcery and devastating missile fire. Proud, haughty, and graceful, the High Elf army is well organized and marches to war in perfect unity, armoured in their strong scale coats, and wielding fine weapons of the highest quality.

Taught the ancient arts of warfare from a young age, the long-lived High Elves of the island nation of Ulthuan are masters of both sword and bow. A highly elite force, they are skillful and well led, though few in number. A successful High Elf commander must use each of his precious units to their full potential in order to win the day.

The bulk of most High Elf forces consists of Archers and Spearmen, the well trained citizen militia of Ulthuan. Other Core units include the flexible Lothern Sea Guard, who fight with sword, bow, and spear, and the Silver Helms, medium cavalrymen who ride swift Elven Steeds. Special units include Ellyrian Reavers who can take advantage of the Fast Cavalry rule, heavy cavalry in the form of Dragon Princes of Caledor, the Swordmasters of Hoeth who wield great weapons with terrifying speed, the infiltrating Shadow Warriors, and the thunderous Tiranoc Chariots. The High Elf commander is spoiled for choice when it comes to Rare units but will have to pick from the following tempting list of troop types: the silent and unnerving Phoenix Guard who carry graceful Elven halberds into battle, the reliable White Lions who wield great weapons and move through forested areas with ease, Great Eagles who support the High Elves from the air, and the much feared Repeater Bolt Thrower, often believed to be the most effective war machine in the Warhammer world.

However the High Elf General chooses to assemble his army, he must commit his troops with care. High Elves will be outnumbered by almost all opponents they face and cannot win a war of attrition. Thus, High Elven missile troops must fire with precision to thin the enemy’s numbers and then make pinpoint charges to weaken the enemy line. High Elven troops are not tough, and most are lightly armoured. They cannot stand up to sustained punishment and will fall if the enemy can bring its numbers to bear. Still, with the variety of troops choices available, the speed of the Elven force, and the overall quality of the troops, the High Elf army is a tactician’s dream and can dictate how the battle will be fought to almost every enemy.
