If you haven't done it already during assembly, prime your
model with Chaos Black Spray Primer (make sure you remove
the plastic tube first). Touch up any spots you missed with
a pot of Chaos Black. This is a fairly easy paint scheme
when you're done, you can glue the bottom of the tube into
the bottom fan casing to finish the model.
STEP 1: Reds

|
 |
|
First, add a drop of Chaos Black to a lot of
Blood Red to get a deep, dark red. Basecoat the
red areas with this mix.
Now, add in a few more drops of Blood Red to
lighten the mix. Brush this new mix over the basecoated
flat areas. Make sure to leave the darker red
showing on the edges to convey shadow. Drybrush
this new mix on the letters of the seal to highlight
them.

STEP 2: Ministorum Seals
|
| Lay down the foundation for the white with a coat
of Codex Grey. Make sure you leave the black showing
along the edges of the fleur-de-lys so you don't
have to line it in later. Touch up the black if
need be. Next, apply several watered-down coats
of Skull White over the Codex Grey. Again, avoid
the black. |

|
STEP 3: Metal Basecoat
|
 |
 |
|
Add the metal details now with Boltgun Metal
for the rivets, drive wheels, drum rims, and exhaust
pipes. Use Brazen Brass for the chamber rods and
the fuel lines (the wires). Don't worry, the paint
won't crack on the fuel lines when you bend them
(though it will scrape off if you aren't careful).
Clean up any metal places where you slopped with
Chaos Black.
It's up to you if you want to paint the tank
treads separately or on the model either
way, you should use Boltgun Metal while leaving
black in the cracks between the treads. Glue them
on now if you painted them separately.
|
|
|
STEP 4: Scorched Metal
|
 |
 |
| You remembered not to glue in the tube, right?
Hope so. Basecoat the nozzle and fan blades on both
fans with Boltgun Metal. Next, lightly drybrush
Snakebite Leather, then Dark Flesh, and finally
Chaos Black. This layering will give you a nice,
rusted, "roasting heretics on an open fire"
look that every Witch Hunter wants. It slices; it
dices; nothing gets past the Incarcerator! |
|
|
STEP 5: Scorched Tube
|
|
Wrap the outside of the plastic tube with tape.
Take your Chaos Black spray paint and hold the
tube at arm's length and lightly mist one end
of the tube. It's better to make several light
passes rather than hose the thing.
Once dry, paint Chestnut Ink on the inside (over
the Chaos Black). Let it sit for 5 seconds and
then wipe it off with your finger so it doesn't
dry blotchy.

STEP 6: Final Details &
Assembly
|
|
|
|
The crew platform needs a little detail. Hit
the gas cans, bench lockers, and exhaust pipe
with Boltgun Metal. As for the control panel,
basecoat the screens with Dark Angels Green and
then detail it with Goblin Green. Paint the buttons
with Boltgun Metal.
For the headlights, basecoat the lamps with
Skull White and finish them with Bad Moon Yellow.
Carefully paint the grating on the lights with
Boltgun Metal.
For highlights, mix Skull White with Chaos Black
(4:1) and highlight the black edges of the tank
chassis. The red areas don't really need a highlight.
Now, glue in the base of the tube inside the
bottom fan casing. Do NOT glue the top of the
tube or the rods to the top fan assembly. That
is, unless you do not want to be able to put miniatures
inside for a good roastin'. The wires are flexible
enough that you can easily remove the top assembly,
drop a model in, and put the top back on for a
game. Just don't grab the model by the top.
