Assembling your Incarcerator is a fairly simple task when
you take it one step at a time. Clip out the parts you need
from your sprues and clean them up, then follow the step-by-step
guide below for reference as you build your mighty vehicle
of Inquisitorial justice!
|
STEP 1: Prepare the Sides
|
 |
|
The first step is to remove the small,
triangular side wall that juts up on the
back edge of the Rhino side it's
meant to contain the crew compartment. Since
the Incarcerator doesn't really have a crew
compartment, you don't really need this
piece. Make sure you don't cut too far so
the top piece won't fit any more. Also shave
down the ramp support so it isn't in the
way. Keep checking that the CPU heat exchanger
will fit between the sides this will
help you determine how much to cut. Watch
your fingers when you do this step.
If you like, take the pin vise and drill
holes into the tops of the exhaust pipes
to make them realistic.
|
|
|
STEP 2: Prepare the Top
|
|
| Preparing the tops of the Rhino sides takes
a little effort. First, cut up the normal
Rhino top bit from the Rhino Hull Sprue 2
so you have the two sides separated from each
other. Use your hobby knife and sprue clippers
to cut down the excess material. It is important
that you remove the raised area that would
normally surround the hatch it will
get in the way later. Again, watch your paws.
|
|
|
STEP 3: Assemble the
Core
|
 |
| First, glue the Rhino tops onto the sides.
Glue the CPU heat exchanger in place on one
side with superglue (the tines on the exchanger
will balance on the lip of the brace that
would support the floor bit of a normal Rhino).
Cut out the basswood plank and glue it into
the floor slot so it's behind the heat exchanger.
Glue the fan on top of the exchanger. Lastly,
glue on the control panel and fuel cans above
the benches. |
|
|
STEP 4: Attach the Other
Side
|
| Glue the other Rhino side onto the heat
exchanger and plank. Make sure it's level.
Glue on the side doors and fleurs-de-lys.
Attach the headlamps now. You can also glue
on the treads and Laud Hailer at this time
or wait for later. Attach any other decorative
bitz now but don't block the fan assembly. |
|
 |
|
STEP 5: Attach the Fuel
Tanks
|
 |
| Use your pin vise to drill a hole in the
top of two of the oil drums (it should be
large enough for all of the fan wires to fit
snugly). Glue the oil drums in place, with
the hole on one side facing forward and the
hole on the other side facing backward. Clip
the fan wires down to a length that will still
reach the forward-facing oil drum. Put a dab
of glue on the wires and slide them into the
drum. Don't glue the second fan wires yet. |
|
|
STEP 6: Assemble the
Chamber
|
| Okay, now it's time to make the turbine
chamber. Take the plastic sheet you have and
cut it into a rectangle which has a long edge
slightly longer than the diameter of the fan
and a short edge that is slightly taller than
the tallest miniature you want to put inside
(~ 3.5"). Wrap the sheet into a tube
and slide it in-between the fan blades and
the casing to check the fit. Tape the tube
to keep the shape and remove it from the fan.
Glue the overlapping sections of the sheet
together and let it dry. Remove the tape and
voila! Cut the four steel rods so they are
the same height as the tube. Click on the
images below for larger versions. |
|
 |
 |
 |
| Insert the four steel rods into the holes
on the corners of the fan. Do not glue them
yet. |
|
| Add the plastic tube you made. It should
line up with the four rods trim it
or them if they aren't level. Again, no glue
yet. |
|
| Now, slide the second fan on the top of
this assembly. Make sure it's level and then
put a drip of glue at the base of each rod. |
|
|
STEP 7: Attach Thrust
Nozzle
|
 |
|
You've noticed that the model was primed
Chaos Black somewhere in here. You can prime
the vehicle and parts before Step 6, or
you can do it now. Just make sure you remove
the clear tube before you prime.
The top fan should be resting on the tube
with the four rods as support this
fan shouldn't be glued to these items yet.
Take the mouthwash bottle cap and use your
hobby saw to cut it to the right height
(about 1 1/2"). It should match the
height of the saline cap.
Place the saline cap on the centre of the
fan blades and glue it down. Next, centre
the mouthwash cap and glue it to the fan
casing. Trim the wires from the top fan
and glue them into the hole in the oil drum.
Make sure you don't glue the top fan to
the tube or rods so you can put a model
inside later.
