This Carnifex was built to slaughter even the toughest infantry (Plague Marines, for example) in wholesale quantities. Not one, but two twin-linked Devourers at their maximum Strength mean that you'll be dropping 8 S6 shots that reroll to hit and Wound. Tack on 2 more shots from the Spine Banks and you're in business. Yikes.

Ty glued a bunch of Devourer tips to the back of this Terrorbore model that he clipped from the Gaunt sprue to further represent Spine Banks. Other than that, Ty made a straight-up Carnifex model with some poor, unfortunate, crushed infantry on the base for flair.

Do the math: the Toxic-Lasher is an Independent Character's worst nightmare. Lash Whips take away most of the enemy's precious Attacks, Toxic Miasma drops the WS, and each Wound (at S9) caused by the Carnifex counts as 2. Smart commanders would take steps to avoid tanglin' with one of these big bad critters.

Making Lash Whips for the Carnifex took Ty a bit of work, but nothing that was insurmountable. He pinned a wire armature to a pair of Scything Talon arms that he then puttied over and textured. At the end of each whip, he glued and puttied a spiny tip in place. To make the creature's Toxic Miasma on its carapace, Ty added disgusting vents out of green stuff. He used a pair of Adrenal Glands to fill in the two "missing" rear arm sockets. To represent the Implant Attack, Ty carefully added a tiny plastic claw tip to the extended tongue.

This life form is absolutely single minded in its purpose to destroy each and every piece of armour on the battlefield. It's hard to kill as it wades forward. Worse, on an optimal roll, it gets 10 S10 chances to penetrate armour. Bye-bye Rhino, Land Raider, Leman Russ, Predator, Chimera, Demolisher...

Ty modeled the Reinforced Chitin by whittling down a few Tyranid Warrior Carapaces to fit the ridge on the Scuttle-Basher's back and shoulders. Next, he glued a pair of Scything Talons from a Tyranid Warrior sprue to the head in order to provide suitably nasty tusks. Lastly, Ty repositioned the legs for a more dynamic, charging pose over top of some hapless vehicle wreckage.
