Gun Drones are cheap, they have the same movement advantages
as the vaunted Battlesuits (jump-shoot-jump, and Deep Strike),
and they can Pin — especially when aided by Markerlights.
Plus, they make for great harassment troops. If you can't
spare the points for a Squadron, just detach the Gun Drones
from your vehicles (though they don't count as scoring units
like stand-alone Gun Drone Squadrons do).
Speaking of that, you should make a point to detach the
Gun Drones on your Devilfish and other tanks. They are part
of most vehicle profiles, so they are effectively "free"
units. Plus, they increase the number of targets the enemy
must kill to destroy the vehicle. Move them their full 12"
so they're right in the way of an enemy's fast assaulters.
Put them in front of enemy firing lines to force Leadership
checks for target selection. Or, have these Gun Drones try
to Pin units that are falling back (you can even trap units
with them). They can even try to sneak around and hit the
rear armor of light vehicles. If you're persistent, you can
incite the enemy to waste time with these Drone pairs.
By the way, if Pinning is your goal with your Gun Drones,
you should use them in concert with enough Markerlights to
reduce the enemy's Leadership to 6 or below (statistically,
the most likely roll of 2D6 is a 7). In fact, Markerlights
will help you more here than a large number of Drones. Just
know that for certain units or characters, you are going to
have to devote a lot of Markerlights, which can be worth it
at the right time. Otherwise, keep your Drones harassing the
enemy.
