The new Vespid offer another interesting choice for Tau
players. Their Neutron Blasters seem to be designed to take
down Space Marines, while their speed from having Fleet and
being Jump Infantry allows them to get in the face of the
enemy quickly. Plus, their Toughness and Initiative make
them decent in close-combat, though their Armor Save leaves
something to be desired. Still, their speed and neutron punch
make them an attractive option to hide behind terrain or
your fire line and jump out to wipe out fast-moving assaulters
that the rest of the army has already been blasting. The
Vespid should be able to clean up most weakened squads with
their shooting and assaulting, especially if the Vespid have
enough numbers.
You could also send up the Vespid to support units that
Infiltrated before, like Stealthsuits and Kroot. The
mere presence of the Vespid may help persuade your enemy
not to
charge after your Infiltrators, especially Kroot in
a forest with insectoids hiding just behind the woods.
Plus, from
this forward-leaning position on the table, your Vespid are
in a prime place to move out quickly and claim table objectives
late in the game.
Keep in mind, though, that Vespid don't have jet packs
like Battlesuits do. That means that once you wipe out an
enemy squad, your Vespid will be sitting out in the open
until they can move again. With a low Armor Save, your heroic
bugs might fall victim to concentrated firepower unless you
intervene. |
