There are many, many ways to paint a Space Marine. You can paint your army to reflect your favourite Chapter, or you can develop a paint scheme all your own! Here, we'll show you how an Ultramarine can be painted using 10 colours. Once your model has an undercoat, painting can begin. Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage-by-stage images for reference as you paint your model. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture-perfect in the end; painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

1 After undercoating the model Chaos Black, paint all the power armour with Ultramarines Blue. Take care to leave lines of Chaos Black between the armour plates.

2 Carefully paint a slightly thinned mix of 80/20 Ultramarines Blue and Skull White onto the edges of the armour. Try to ensure that the lines are of the same size and wide enough to allow you to paint on two increasingly narrower lines in the next couple of steps. Paint the eyes with Blood Red and apply Skull White to the boltgun casing, the shoulder pad rims, and the chest eagle. Finally, give the foot coils a quick basecoat of Dark Angels Green.

3

Now for the tricky part. Using a slightly thinned mix of 60/40 Ultramarines Blue and Skull White, precisely paint a line over the highlighting on the edges of the armour from before. Paint this new highlight line so that only a little of the previous line remains. Highlight the bottom half of the eyes with a mix of Fiery Orange and Blood Red. Apply Blood Red to the Boltgun. Paint the shoulder pad rims Golden Yellow and the chest eagle Fiery Orange. Your Space Marine is certainly good enough for gaming at this point!

4

To finish the highlighting, use a slightly thinned mix of 40/60 Ultramarines Blue and Skull White to paint a line on the very edge of the armour. Complete the highlight on the bottom half of the eyes with Fiery Orange. Use Fiery Orange and Blood Red as a highlight on the Boltgun casing. Highlight the shoulder pad rims and chest eagle with some Bad Moon Yellow. Give the foot coils a quick highlight with a mix of Snot Green and Dark Angels Green.

5 Use Fiery Orange as a final highlight for the edge of the Boltgun casing. Highlight the shoulder pad rims and chest eagle are with a 50/50 mix of Skull White and Bad Moon Yellow. Apply Shadow Grey onto all the soft ridges in between the armour plates. Finally, paint Boltgun Metal onto all the metal areas of the helmet, boltgun, and backpack.
