The origins of the Dark Angels Chapter are shrouded in mystery. There are no records of its beginnings nor any mention of its part in the Emperor's Great Crusade. Any reference in the Imperial histories to the Dark Angels' deeds during the accursed times of the Horus Heresy has been expunged. Yet, a legend persists that at one point the Dark Angels teetered on the very brink of Chaos and that an act of the most terrible betrayal left an enduring stain on the Chapter's honour. Since that shameful time, the Dark Angels have borne the mark of the Unforgiven and strive for absolution of the sins of millennia past.

Codex: Dark Angels

When building a Warhammer 40,000 army, the best place to begin is its respective Codex. These books are indispensable, not only providing you with the complete rules and army lists for your army, but also containing guides to painting, assembling, and selecting your army. Lastly, Codexes contain the army's background story that you can find nowhere else.

Codex: Dark Angels is one in a series of army books that act as supplements to Codex: Space Marines. Each book in the series describes an army, its history, and its heroes in detail. Note that Codex: Dark Angels is not a stand-alone book; you also need Codex: Space Marines to field a Dark Angels army. Inside Codex: Dark Angels, you will find:

Army Lists
Rules and information for new units available only to the Dark Angels, such as the renowned Deathwing and Ravenwing. Information detailing new weapons, vehicles, and wargear used by the Dark Angels is also included.

Hobby Section
Seven full colour pages packed with invaluable tips and advice on collecting, painting, and playing with a Dark Angels army.

Special Characters
Complete rules and background information for Dark Angel characters such as Commander Azrael, Chief Librarian Ezekiel, and Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai.

New Scenario
Death by Moonlight – A new Dark Angels scenario depicting a valiant defence of Koth Ridge.

Once you get the appropriate Codex in your hands, you'll need some troops to command and form the core of your growing army. Next, we'll take a look at the Space Marine Tactical Squad boxed set, the perfect place to find your first recruits.
