BASES
Plastic models are usually glued straight on top of the base, while metal models have a 'tag' on their feet which is glued into a corresponding slot. Riding animals such as horses and warboars have tags on their legs which are glued into parallel slots of rectangular bases.
Using the Right Base From the gaming point of view, it's very important to glue your models to the right size base. It's usually fairly obvious which size you need, and anyway, all Citadel miniatures come supplied with the correct size bases. Square bases are used for Warhammer, for example Orc Arrer Boyz and Empire Spearmen. Square bases come in two sizes - 20mm and 25mm. Most models fit on the 20mm bases; the others are used for larger models such as Orcs Round bases are used for Warhammer 40,000, for example Space Marines Rectangular bases are used for cavalry, such as the mounted Empire General Incidentally, the reason why Warhammer bases are square is because the troops are moved together in large regimental 'blocks', whereas in Warhammer 40,000 troops move in loose groups or 'squads'.
