kay,
now you've assembled some of your Dark Angels models, and
maybe you've played a few games with them. Still, your Warhammer
40,000 opponents are telling you that unpainted miniatures
give you bad luck with the dice. We cannot confirm this belief,
but we do know that painted models make for more realistic
and fun games of 40K. Time to get painting!
The step-by-step painting guide below walks you through
a relatively simple paint scheme for your Dark Angels Space
Marines that uses 10 colors. Follow the instructions for
each step and
check
out all the imagery for reference as
you go. Though it takes a bit of practice, you'll be surprised
how quickly your painting skills develop, especially with
the guidance of other hobbyists. Before you know it, you'll
be cranking out painted miniatures that you'll be proud
to field in your Dark Angels army.

Start by undercoating the entire model with Chaos Black Spray Paint. Once that dries, carefully paint the armor with Dark Angels Green while leaving lines of Chaos Black showing between the armor plates. |
|
|
| 2 |
Next, mix up some Dark Angels Green and Bad Moon Yellow at about a 4:1 ratio and carefully apply it to the edges of the armor. Try to
ensure that these lines are of the same size, and they should be wide enough
to allow you to paint more highlight lines in the next
couple of steps. Paint the eyes with Blood Red, and basecoat the boltgun casing with Skull White. To finish
this stage, apply Bestial Brown to the chest eagle. |

Time to build
upon that first highlight. Thin down a mix of 3:2 Dark
Angels Green to Bad Moon Yellow with water. Apply this
mix to the very edges of the armor you highlighted before
to serve as your final highlight. To highlight the eyes,
paint the bottom edge with a mix of Fiery Orange and Blood
Red. Paint over the white boltgun casing with Blood Red.
Highlight the chest eagle with Bleached Bone, while the
foot coils and purity seals (if any) get a coat of Scab
Red. This Dark Angel is certainly good enough for gaming
at
this
point!

Start of this stage with a Fiery Orange
and Blood Red highlight on the edges of the boltgun casing. Very steadily paint Shadow Grey onto all the soft
ridges in between the armor plates. Finish the chest eagle
with a highlight of Skull White and the
foot coils with a highlight of Blood Red.

Time to finish this Space Marine. Apply Fiery Orange
as a final highlight onto the edge of the boltgun
casing. Finally, paint Boltgun Metal onto all the
metal areas of the helmet, boltgun, and backpack. |
