When Codex: Daemonhunter’s was published I really liked the look and the feel of the army as a whole. I’ve always been a big fan of the mythos surrounding Inquisitors and their exploits throughout the galaxy protecting the Imperium from heretics, daemons and other nasty critters. Now, all of the cool stuff that are capable of doing is stuck in an army book for players to utilize. Unless of course you are a heretic and play Chaos!

I really wanted to do a Daemonhunter army, but with my Imperial Fists staring back at me from the paint table, I felt I couldn’t abandon them for a new army. Thankfully, I can have the best of both worlds. I can still play my Imperial Fists, and using the Daemonhunters’ army list, I can throw in an Inquisitor to fight alongside of them. Afterall, the Imperial Fists are very loyal to the Emperor and it would be nothing out of the ordinary to see them fighting at the side of an Inquisitor.

Looking at my Imperial Fists army list, you can quickly discover how much I value my troop slots. Although I still try to fill at least one slot in each of the other categories, the main driving force behind my army are rank upon rank of Space Marines.

In revising my army list to include Daemonhunters, I did two things. First, I added two squads of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. Since my compulsory Troop choices are filled with Space Marines, I am able to add squads of Daemonhunter troops to fill up my troop selections. Inquisitorial Stormtroopers are great selections, and in my opinion, are some of the best guard miniatures we currently make. Second, I included a really nice looking Inquisitor model with a couple of henchmen in robes with tubes and wires coming out of them, giving them a really dark and augmented look. I think this captures the real essence of what an Inquisitor would look like if he was out on the battlefield.

As you can see, I now have a nice new army list for roughly 2000-points. If I have to play a smaller points size, I can drop one or two squads and still have Troops as the driving force behind my army.

I’ll admit it, the only reason I did this is because the new Daemonhunter models are just too cool to pass up. So, instead of doing a whole new army, I was able to add a few squads and completely change the way my army looked and played. So, if you need something new for your imperial army, and you don’t want to paint the same old models, pick up some of the new Deamonhunter models and fit them into your army like I did, it’s well worth it!
