So, what if you don’t want to take a Mark at all? You are
just a ruthless mercenary Chaos Lord exacting revenge upon
the galaxy at large that has shunned you these 10,000 years?
Are you going to miss out? Well, no. Those who do not waste
their time dabbling in worship of one of the Chaos Powers
can hone their war skills in the off-hours. To reflect this,
any un-Marked Chaos Space Marine (or Bikes, Havocs, Raptors
but not Possessed) can have more than one Veteran skill.
Also, in my Chaotic opinion, lists like the NightLords would
benefit greatly from not taking a Mark of Undivided.
| Picture the usefulness of a Night Lords
Havocs squad with Stealth (+1 Cover save, unique to the
Night Lords), Infiltrate (well, Infiltrate) and Tankhunter
skills (+1 to your AP rolls). Of course, all this evil
goodness costs points (hey, we had to balance the list
somehow!) but could be very powerful (and more importantly,
characterful) in the right scenarios. |

Having said that though, resist the temptation to load up
too many skills at first. Early games had my opponent commenting
that if I had bought less skills I could have had another
Troops unit. Point taken. Basically, you are given the tools
to fashion your warband how you wish. How good you are at
using those tools only time will tell.
Units with a Mark (except Tzeentch - Sorcery is too much
of an obsessive hobby to allow Tzeentch units Veteran Skills)
may only take one skill. However, I can tell you for certain
that a unit of 16 Khorne Berzerkers with Counter-Charge can
be lots and lots of fun. Or those Plague Marines with 'Furious
Charge' are always good for a little table-top scrapping. My
personal favourite ‘never-hit-the-table-without-it’ unit are
my 'skirmishers': around six to ten Chaos Space Marines with
Move through Cover and two plasma guns.
