The single most important idea to get your vile head around
is that UNITS are given the Marks of Chaos, model by evil
model, not just a single Champion with in those units. A simple
formula to demonstrate:
Chaos Space Marine + Mark of Patron @ X Points = Cult Chaos
Space Marine
Of course, no mixing Marks within a unit. Also, some units
cannot have Marks of some Patrons (no Khornate Havoc squads,
for example, or Tzeentch Bikers – automatons have problems
with the quick reflex 'leaning in' bit when spinning around
a curve on a spiky Harley). Marks will affect the weapons
kit of the unit (no Heavy Weapons for models with the Mark
of Nurgle, for example).
| All Chaos Space Marine units can have the
Mark of Chaos Undivided, which is quite a handy mark in
its own right and was a bit too good a deal in the last
Codex (costing exactly nothing for a re-roll on a Morale
check, often on a Ld 10 Champion)! So now it costs 1 point
per model (5 for an Independent Character). |

The great boon of the new way of assigning Marks is that
you need not invest in pricey Champions (though not as pricey
as before, see 'Fun with Wargear' below) to get the benefit
of the Mark. So, your Chaos Bikes can now have Ld 9 with a
re-roll for a paltry 1 point per model.
The Marks of the 'Big Four' Chaos gods all have their own
unique set of attributes. In general, the Marks perform the
same function on the models regardless of what unit it is
applied to (Tzeentch being a bit more varied from the norm,
of course). The details for each of the Patrons’ Marks are
found in their own 'Books of Chaos'.
