I'll keep this short: Champions (non-Independent Characters)
pay less for wargear. The discount goes for pistols, power
fists, combi-meltas, etc. as well as some of the Daemonic
Gifts. This change makes sense for so many reasons I won’t
bore you with them. Your Champions can take up to 75 points
of Armoury goodness, 50 of which can be from the jaw dropping
Daemonic Gifts section. Why would you tool up a Champion in
this way?
Observe:
|
A Khornate Champion in a World Eaters army leads a
unit of 16 Berzerkers. He is armed with a bolt pistol
(free for being a Chaos Space Marine), Mark of Khorne
(5), a Juggernaut (35) and an Axe of Khorne (20) and
the Talisman of Burning Blood (5).
This bad boy has SIX, S 5 power weapon attacks on the
charge, re-rolls any 6s that hit to get more hits and
each turn he rolls TWO dice for Blood Frenzy. If either
die is a 1 or 2 then the unit moves in Blood Frenzy
during the Shooting phase. If the entire unit reached
base-to-base contact with the enemy they’d be rolling
60 dice for regular or chainaxe attacks plus five from
the Champion. In the immortal words of E.T. - "Ouch".

Also, be sure to check out things like great weapons (+1
S, two handed), Chaos Hounds, Spawn, etc. A Daemon Prince
with a great weapon is S 6 and it would only cost you 18 points
onto your Lord to make the change. Not too shabby by a long
shot. Slap on Daemonic Flight and a Mark of Slaanesh (with
Warp Scream, opposing models are –1 Initiative) and go hunting
for opposing Characters. Give the Prince 'Daemonic Strength'
(+1 S) and the Furious Charge skill (+1S, +1 I on Charge) just
to make sure you get those auto kills against T 4 models!
