When building a Warhammer 40,000 army, the best place to begin is with its respective Codex. These books are indispensable, not only providing you with the complete rules and army lists for your army, but also containing guides on painting, assembling, and selecting your army. Lastly, Codexes contain the army's background story, which gives you a glimpse into what makes the army interesting.
Codex: Black Templars is one in a series of army books books that brings the many diverse races of the 41st millennium to life. Each Codex in the series describes an army in detail, from its history to its heroes. Inside Codex: Black Templars, you will find a wealth of information, including:

Unlike Codexes of yore, you do NOT need Codex: Space Marines to use Codex: Black Templars. That's right, the only two books you need to start a Black Templars army is its Codex and the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. However, Black Templar players might still enjoy some of the background information and hobby material in Codex: Space Marines, so consider picking up a copy as you amass your Black Templar force.
