

The Golden Demon Painting competition is run through Games Workshop Hobby Centres and some select Independent stockists. It is the premier Painting Competition for the Games Workshop Hobby in Australia and New Zealand. The Competition is split up into three big days "Golden Demon Day" the "Regional Finals" and then the "Grand Final. The competition is a way for hobbyists to become inspired to paint by seeing the painted miniatures of other hobbyists on display. Golden Demon also builds a stronger community by bringing like-minded hobbyists together. Ultimately Golden Demon aims to give recognition to the best Miniature painters in Australia and New Zealand Visiting any one of the locations on the three days will no doubt leave hobbyists enthused and inspired to paint their own masterpieces!
Golden Demon Day will be held at all Games workshop Hobby Centres and select Independent Stockists.
Tickets to enter Golden Demon will go on sale in Hobby Centres and those select Independent Stockists hosting a Golden Demon Day and the Hobby Service centre about one month out from the event. Tickets can be purchased on Golden Demon Day.
Entries for Golden Demon Day need to be submitted by 10am on the day of competition at your chosen Centre or Stockist.
Entries may be viewed between 10am and 3:45pm. Judging will be ongoing during this time. The top three finalists in each category will be announced at 4pm on Golden Demon Day. Entries not moving onto the Regional Finals must be collected after the finalists have been announced unless arrangements have been made with staff to display the entry.
As per the Competitors Guidelines entries placing in the top three are eligible to be entered into the Regional finals and may be transported by the competitor or Games Workshop. The cost of transport by Games Workshop is included in the ticket price.
The Golden Demon Regional Finals will be held in the following locations.
New Zealand: St Lukes Hobby Centre
Queensland: Brisbane Hobby Centre
New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory: Sydney Battle Bunker
Western Australia: Perth Hobby Centre
South Australia: Adelaide Hobby Centre
Victoria/Tasmania : Melbourne Hobby Centre
Entries into the Regional finals which are transported by Games Workshop will be on display in the above locations for one week prior to the event.
Entries into the Regional Finals which are transported by competitors must be submitted to staff in the Hobby Centre hosting the final by no later than 10am on the day of the Regional Finals.
Entries may be viewed between 10am and 3:45pm. Judging will be ongoing during this time.
The top three finalists in each category will be announced at 4pm on the day of the Regional Finals. The NSW Regional final will announce a top 6 in each category. All top six entries will be eligible to enter the Grand Final.
Entries not moving onto the Grand Final can be collected after the finalists have been announced. Entries remaining after this point will be returned by Games Workshop to the original location where they were first entered into the competition on Golden Demon Day. Entries will be returned within 10 days of the Regional Competition. New Zealand Entries will be returned within 14 days. Competitors will then have to organize to collect their entries from these locations
The Golden Demon Grand Final Weekend will be held in the Sydney Battle Bunker.
Entries into the Grand Final which are transported by Games Workshop will be on display in the Sydney Battle Bunker for one week prior to the Grand Final.
Entries into the Grand Final which are transported by competitors must be submitted to staff by no later than 10am on Saturday the 10th of November.
Entries will be judged between 10am & 4pm on Saturday the 17th of November.
The top three finalists in each category will be announced at 5pm on Saturday the 17th of November. Golden Demon, Young Blood and Open Category Trophies will be presented at this time. Also at this time the Judges will award the coveted Slayer Sword. The Slayer Sword is given to the Golden Demon entry the Judges deem is the best overall entry of the final. Light refreshments will be available in the Battle Bunker after the awards ceremony.
Entries will be on display between 11am and 3pm on Sunday the 18th of November. Entries can be collected after 3pm on Sunday the 18th of November.
Those entries not collected over the weekend of the Golden Demon Grand Final will be transported by Games Workshop back to the original location where they were first entered into the competition on Golden Demon Day. Any trophies awarded to the entry will be transported with the entry. Australian entries into the Grand Final will be returned to their original entry location within 10 days of the Grand Final. New Zealand Entries will be returned within 14 days. Competitors will then have to organize to collect their entries from these locations.
Employees of Games Workshop are not allowed to enter the Golden Demon painting competition. Despite what they may tell you it is not because they are necessarily the best painters. It is simply to avoid ethical dilemmas given the judges work for Games Workshop as well. Games Workshop runs a painting competition for it's staff called the Emperors Chosen. All staff entries in the Emperors Chosen competition will be on display over the Grand Final Weekend.
